The Basics

Most visitors opt to cruise in on a guided day or overnight tour from Hobart. Tours typically visit highlights such as the Cape Bruny Lighthouse, Mount Mangana rainforest, and Adventure Bay. Food tasting tours are also popular, with guides taking visitors to island hot spots such as the Bruny Island Cheese Company, Bruny Island Berry Farm, and other artisan producers. You’ll also stop at some of the best points for wildlife viewing.

Brilliant Tour - a must do
Amazing Tour - the guide, Rick did an exceptional job with what was (at times) a challenging group. The lighthouse tour is fabulous with once-in-a-lifetime views; it’s all pre-booked and ready to go (eg no lining up). Everything else is exceptional - my favourite part was the cheese and oysters for morning tea. A few notes - it’s more suited to teens and up (not little kids) and make sure you rug up as it’s cold and windy on the walk around the lighthouse!!

Full-Day Guided Bruny Island Tour from Hobart
Peter was our guide and from to moment we meet him, we felt comfortable and relaxed. Peter is very knowledgeable and funny and he made our day. Only had 7 in total on our tour we traveled in a new van very comfortable. So much to see Bruny Island with so much variety of things to see. Loved every minute. I would totally recommend this tour company.

A good Tour

Bruny Island Day Tour, Includes Lunch and Exclusive Lighthouse Tour
A very good tour with our excellent tour guide Rick. He gave us lots of information about the island without talking all the time, giving us time to take in the scenery. Very good with his timings and taking us to all the venues with plenty of time at each one. Liked that he lives on the island. Quality of all the food was excellent. Only drawback was wildlife wasn't a focus of this trip and we didn't see much at all. But this is no reflection on Rick.

James let us all have a go at pulling ropes to set sails and steer the boat through the channel. It was an incredible experience.

Full-Day Guided Bruny Island Tour from Hobart
Great day exploring Bruny Island, weather was fantastic, Peter our driver/guide ran the day really well after a small mishap at the begining of the day so we were still able to experience all the great sights and tastes the island offers

How to Get There

Dangling off the southern shore of Tasmania, Bruny Island lies about 25 miles (40 kilometers) south of Hobart. Car ferries run to Bruny from the mainland town of Kettering, a 20-minute cruise across the Tasman Sea, arriving at the Bruny Island Ferry Terminal in North Bruny. The closest airport is Hobart, which offers regular flights to Sydney, Melbourne, and other mainland Australia cities. Once on the island, you’ll need a car or bicycle to get around.

When to Get There

The most popular time to visit Bruny Island is summer, when weather is warmer and all the island’s attractions are open. Tours, ferries, and accommodations can be more expensive at this time, however, especially over summer holidays (December to January), and advance bookings are advised. A winter visit can save money, and you’ll get many of the natural wonders to yourself, but check ahead that accommodations and attractions are open.
