Returns to original departure point
Start your Dart River jet boat and funyak tour with a hotel pickup in Queenstown. Travel through the countryside to Glenorchy, the entryway to the World Heritage–listed Mount Aspiring National Park. You might recognize the lush forests and towering peaks of this winding river valley as Tolkien’s ‘Middle-earth,’ that was featured in the popular 'The Lord of the Rings' trilogy.

After a safety briefing, put on your wetsuit and booties, lifejacket, fleece, and a dry bag. Then climb aboard the jet boat and prepare for a wild ride as you zoom at top speed through the water while listening to commentary about your surroundings.

In a secluded stretch of the Dart River, swap the jet boat for your funyak, which seats up to three people. Float downstream as you paddle peacefully over the shimmering turquoise water, following behind your guide in a flotilla. Explore secret side streams, rock pools, and chasms before stopping for a buffet lunch in the great outdoors. Soak up the stunning wilderness and then continue your funyak adventure after lunch. Keep an eye out for red deer, yellow-crowned parakeets, and other wildlife.

After your tour, hop back into your coach and relax on the return journey to Queenstown with drop-off at your hotel.

An amazing day which I highly recommend. The dart boat ride was a fun way to travel up the river and the kayaking back was great to take in all the wonderful scenery. A good lunch with lots of options and plenty to eat and a good team supporting the day

Dart River Funyak

This was a great opportunity to enjoy the scenery leading to Glenorchy. The jet boat ride was awesome! Kudos to our driver Jimmy as his skills were shown when he had to drive thru white out conditions due to blowing silt. Unfortunately due to higher winds in the valley we had to tether the rafts together to go downstream to form a raft vs just a funyak. It was still a great experience but not perfect. The scenery was still stunning in places. The chasm at lunch time was awesome!!! Lunch was delicious and our guide Abby was great! Was just a great day overall!!!

Great jetboat and funyak combo

The jetboat was an exciting blast at 70mph and several 360 splash turns. Lunch was hardy and quite good. The funyak was well managed as each group of five had a guide and our guide Nina helped us out whenever we got into a problem. It was hard work at times but much fun and very rewarding.

A perfect day trip

We absolutely loved our jetboating and 'funyak' experience. The jetboat was lots of fun and our guide was hysterical! Even if the word 'funyak' is pretty cringy, the actual experience is awesome! It was perfect for those of us with limited experiencing kayaking/rafting/canoeing. The guides were funny, helpful, friendly, and informative. We thoroughly enjoyed it!

This was a fun trip. In August it was very, very cold so wrap up warm. The jet boat tour is not for anyone who suffers from motion-sickness, such as myself. I hadn't taken this into consideration when booking the trip. The water was crystal clear, but not quite the turquoise colour of the brochures! Staff were helpful and friendly.

This tour is SO MUCH FUN!! It was cold and rainy when we ended up going but we didn't even care. The sights are beautiful and they make sure you have a good time. Lunch was good but if you're looking for something warm and filling you might be disappointed. It's part of the experience, so just have fun with it!

Although a bit expensive this experience is worth every penny. The logistics for this trip is amazing. Never felt unsafe or in jeopardy as these guys really know what they are doing. The jetboat ride is quite entertaining. If you want to get wet go to the back of the boat. The funyak was another amazing experience although it could be challenging for some. Lunch provided was also very good: picnic style with sandwiches, fruits, pastry and hot beverages. We enjoyed a windy and chilly day which kept the insatiable sand flies at bay but whenever wind stopped they were really a nuisance. They bite so wear bug repellent. If I go back to Queenstown I will take this tour again.
