Returns to original departure point
You're transferred from your accommodation in Rotorua after a personalized meet-and-greet and photo op with a Maori maiden dressed in traditional attire. Then learn some basic guidelines for entering the Mitai Maori Village, considered a sacred cultural and spiritual space to the Maori people.

In this bush setting of New Zealand's North Island, discover the history of the area once thriving with indigenous villages. You'll observe Maori warriors paddling a waka, or canoe, down the Wai-o-whiro stream, and visit the Fairy Spring for a look at freshwater eels, trout, and glowworms.

The evening's cultural entertainment includes a performance of games, songs, and dances including the haka, or war dance. Learn about Maori customs, including the art of ta moko (tattoo), woodcarving, and medicinal uses of native plants.

Savor a selection of succulent dishes during a traditional hangi feast, with foods cooked underground in an earthen oven. Your dinner includes New Zealand meats and poultry along with vegetables and fresh salads. Top off your meal with buffet-style desserts. Drinks are available for purchase from the full bar.

Afterward, you're dropped off at your hotel.

What an exciting evening! We got to see our superb supper cooking in the ground, and then enjoy it, watch a Maori Tribe show explaining their culture, walk through the woods and see the glow worms in their natural habitat. What a glorious, enjoyable day.

Highlight was question time and of course the food

We had a wonderful time at the Mitai Village experience. It was very friendly and welcoming. Question time was my favorite, it gave everyone a chance to ask what they wanted to know about Maori culture and the MC answered the Questions beautifully. The food was delicious.
The warriors

Very welcoming and inclusive. A great introduction to Maori history and culture. The walk through the bush and the recreated village felt completely authentic. The arrival of the warriors by canoe was very exciting. The food was great and there was plenty of it, but was completed western, so would have welcomed the opportunity to at least try something traditional.

Great show. Very amusing host with good banter. Very informative about Maori culture and awesome Hangi. Recommend this event to anyone visiting NZ.
The dancing and singing

We both enjoyed the experience. The only criticism was we weren't given any time frame after arriving to have our drinks finished by. Also, the same at the end of the meal before we started the final walk.
Our Maori experience
, Mar 2020
Our traditional Maori experience was truly unique. We gained knowledge of both culture and food both visually and through the insight and history portrayed through our guide throughout the evening. Also, with the numbers involved, we were impressed with the co-ordination and organisation of the whole event. John & Mary Nelson Bay NSW

This Maori cultural experience is well worth a visit. The commentary, show and dinner were outstanding and I would highly recommend it. This experience was recommended to us by friends who live Rotorua. It is a full evening of awesome entertainment and wonderful hangi food.
