Your day trip from Strasbourg begins when you meet your guide aboard the awaiting minivan in the town center. Settle into air-conditioned comfort for the scenic drive.

The first stop is the village of Colmar, where you’ll go on a walking tour with your guide. The town’s cobblestoned streets are lined with characteristic German-style half-timbered buildings, and you’ll even see some canals. See Colmar’s main sights, including Saint Martin’s Church and the 16th-century Pfister House, and wander historic neighborhoods like Little Venice.

Your next stop is the picturesque town of Eguisheim, known for its Medieval buildings decorated with flowers, and then it’s on to Riquewihr. The charming town sits inside Medieval walls, and is a warren of meandering alleys and chocolate-box houses. Enjoy some time to explore the pretty town at your leisure, including time to have lunch (own expense).

Continuing on your Alsace tour, the next point of interest is the 105-mile (170 km) Alsace Wine Route (Route des Vins d’Alsace). This scenic road curves gently through rolling hills and past acres of vineyards at the foot of the Vosges Mountains. Continue toward your final stop — Haut Koenigsbourg Castle (Château du Haut-Koenigsbourg).

The castle dates from the 12th century, and you’ll have a chance to explore the inside — including where people once lived inside it — and find out how this powerful fortress used to control the salt, wheat and wine routes from northern and eastern Europe. Admire the excellent views from the castle’s hilltop vantage point before climbing back into the minivan for the drive back to Strasbourg at the starting point of the tour.

Our guide, Brigitte, was fantastic! She was very knowledgeable and went out of her way to make the experience personal, including a couple of pit stops with great views and good recommendations. The time spent in each location was perfect!

Wonderful stops but not the best guided experience

The cities and castle were absolutely wonderful and we enjoyed ourselves as a family of 6 on holiday. However, there were definitely some areas of this experience that needed improvement: our guide was very kind and looked out for us but scared us a bit with pretty unsafe driving. The microphone in the van was cutting in and out non stop, and we let him know a few times but stopped speaking up when the issue persisted because we didn’t want him to be distracted fumbling with it while driving. Ultimately, only the person sitting in the front seat next to him could really hear what he was saying and the rest of us tuned out and gave up. The time management could have been better. We spent more time than needed on the tour portion in Colmar and it left us with 30 minutes of free time to ourselves to explore. We raced to retrace our steps back through the city and then ran as fast as we could back to our meeting point. I wish we had a chance to tailor the plan ahead of time and ask to shorten the tour portion a bit so that we would have a little more time so explore. Lastly, this is not a personal criticism of our guide at all because he was very friendly, but I want to note that his English was not at an advanced enough level to give tours. It made it difficult to engage with him, and I believe it compounded on the issues noted above (the tour time feeling a bit long for not understanding what was being said, and the microphone issues were more bothersome because we were already having a hard time understanding what was being said). All in all, if I had to do this again, I would just probably book a driver or find a different mode of transportation between the cities, read up on fun facts about the landmarks and culture on our own, and pay for an audio tour (or pay for the castle’s guided tour) at the castle.

A lovely day trip with a small group. The 3 villages are really beautiful and the castle is not to be missed! Our guide, Adrian, was truly excellent and kindly drove us back to our hotel as he couldn’t get back to the City Centre in the evening as the roads are closed during Christmas market hours. The only downside was that the car was a bit cramped for our liking.

The tour was excellent. We initially thought we'd cover these villages on our own, but then saw this and booked it. And I have to say we are super thankful we decided to book it. Our tour guide (Bridgette) was very kind, and super helpful at every step of the tour. She gave us excellent recommendations, guided us through every village and told us very interesting stories! It was a day very well spent. I highly recommend this tour :)

Great for seeing the villages in a nutshell

I went on a small group tour, which was great because we could talk a lot with our guide, learn even more, and get some tips from a local. Our guide Pauline was very knowledgeable and adaptable, we ended up adjusting our itinerary to see as many villages as possible, and she would tell us all about each village, a lot about the region and the wine... It was great! Thank you for a great experience, Pauline!

Several quaint villages, wineries and a castle make this a memorable day trip. Our guide, pauline was knowledgeable and entertaining and she let us explore at our own pace. I highly recommend this tour, particularly if you are fortunate enough to have pauline as your guide!
