Excellent tour

Excellent tour. Our guide was very knowledgeable about the area, the history, and the people and provided good commentary. We were fortunate the geysers cooperated and we had a good show. The cultural show was not what I expected but was excellent. I was happy with the kiwi farm visit. The only negative really was it would have been nice to have just a bit more time to explore on my own, but definitely wouldn’t want to give up anything we did.

The guide Bas was excellent....gave us a broad and instructive tour. Every segment of the tour...bush walk to the falls, Te Puia ... were very good. The cultural show was excellent, much better than the show at Waitangi Treaty Grounds. The Arts School within Te Puia is worth a visit ... modern and most informative.

Excellent Guide
Bobbi

The itinerary was as outlined, Kiwi farm, waterfalls and Rototua. The bus was fitted for small group (10 or 11) and comfortable. Guy was an excellent guide. He provided detailed commentary about the history and current culture of New Zealand, the area, economy and industry, as well as the Maori. The length of the tour was perfect, for a snapshot of the area, when you only have one day.

Hi Bobbi, thanks for the feedback, really appreciated. I will pass your comments on to Guy. I know he will be delighted that you had such a good day. Safe travels. Simon

Excellent trip from Tauranga to Rotorua

It was a fantastic trip. The group was small so there was plenty of time to ask questions and interact with our excellent guide, Guy. He was very informative and clear and precise with information. I would highly recommend this tour where you will see a Kiwi Fruit farm, a Kiwi bird at Te Puia, lots of thermal activity and a very entertaining Cultural Show.

Many thanks Laurel for taking the time to give feedback and we are delighted you had such a good day. Safe travels. Simon

Rather disappointing

We saw some nice scenery, and the Maori cultural show was excellent, but the driver/guide was apparently anxious to get home, and we arrived back at the port after 7 rather than the advertised ~7.5 hours, even though we did not make the stops listed in the itinerary after Te Puia. We spent 3 hours at Te Puia as advertised, but the time could have been better utilized and we could have seen more if we had had a better understanding of the layout/activities and time allocation at the outset. It would also have been very helpful if the guide/driver had provided us with a brochure for the area that included the layout. We followed our guide around the area, but his commentary was not very elucidating, he did not go to all the attractions, and we would have been able to do/see more if we had toured the area on our own. There was not much to the kiwi fruit stop other than a chance to buy from the shop and use the restrooms (which were also available at 2 other stops). We started the tour with a stop along the coast not far from the port—the itinerary actually shows it occurring at the end of the trip, which would be better because it was not worth spending as much time there as we did, time that could have been better spent at Akere Falls or Te Puia with a shorter stop at the end to view the beach (we actually walked to a much nicer beach area near the Burger King by the port). So in summary, we felt it was just an average tour and we left rather disappointed.

Many thanks for the feedback I and I sorry that the day did not meet your expectations. I wish you had included the date, or even the name of the guide so we could talk to him/her. Your review is particularly important to us as I don’t think we have ever had such a poor one and you took the time to include lots of detail. Everybody is supposed to follow the same itinerary, and the ‘beach stop’ (which is close to Burger King) is supposed to be first as this is where we talk about the day, the geology, the volcanoes, the arrival of the Polynesians and tell you the legend about our ‘mountain’. The length of the tour is 7-8 hours and the actual time will change a little as sometime Pohutu’s (the big Geyser) eruption cycle is long and we hang around waiting for it, other times it erupts just as we arrive, so the tour is slightly shorter. It sounds like you had to ‘hang around’ waiting for it. So once again, my apologies that your day was not what you hoped for. I too am disappointed. I will share your review with all the guides and determine what went wrong and what we can do to improve in the future. Simon

Best Tour Ever

This is one of the best tours we have ever done. We saw so much in one day Guy our driver was so knowledgeable, he was excellent, he made the tour flow so easily. He timed the stop at Kuirau Park so that we saw the geysers at their full height. The Maori Cultural Show was wonderful, my favorite part of the day. Every stop was perfect. Again the whole experience was flawless, thanks to Learning Journeys and especially Guy for an unforgettable day.
