Departure Time

9:00 AM
Start your shore excursion with pickup from the cruise port in Tauranga, departing Mt Maunganui for a day trip through the North Island’s lake country, sprinkled with more than a dozen pristine lakes. En route to Rotorua, hear insightful live commentary on board the vehicle as you travel past the lovely waterfront and Bay of Plenty.

A short drive brings you to your first stop in the town of Te Puke, considered New Zealand's kiwifruit capital. Visit Kiwifruit Country, and learn more about this special fruit.

Next, drive past rolling farmland and pine tree forests then disembark for a brief stroll to Okere Falls, a small town popular for its waterfalls and lakefront views. Stop for lunch beside Lake Rotorua (own expense) before visiting the thermal wonderland of Whakarewarewa in the afternoon. Follow a Maori guide through a lunar-like landscape of hot springs and mud pools, and see the eruption of Pohutu Geyser. You’ll hear how the indigenous people used the jets of steam from the bubbling cauldrons for everyday functions.

Discover more Maori customs at a Maori village, starting with a traditional welcome. Enjoy a performance of song and dance, including the warlike haka. After, go sightseeing in Rotorua city. View the Government Gardens, historical bath house and natural hot springs at Whangapipiro (Rachel's Pool) as well as Lake Tarawera if time allows.

Complete your Rotorua shore excursion with the return to Mt Maunganui, following a scenic route via the Tauranga city center before crossing the harbor bridge to the port.

Rotorua Highlights

Our tour guide was Stephen. He was great and gave us a lot of information. There were ample stops to take pictures. This was our first experience of booking a tour outside our cruise ship. The information about the meeting place was clear. It was so refreshing to be on a smaller van with less than 15 people. It was obvious this tour group knew what they were doing and ran a very professional tour.

Just So-So

Tour guide was German on a NZ excursion and not always easy to understand. Not punctual, often standing around talking when all guests were onboard and ready for departure. Little valuable information. Very strong sulfur smell at Rototura and most unpleasant. Scenery was so-so. Would take the excursion again at half the price.

Great Original NZ Experience

Rotorua was a great experience. Being able to walk through a working village with several hot springs boiling away was something everyone should see when visiting NZ. The guides are local and live there at the village. Being a genuine working village, visitors need to be respectful of the people. All up a terrific day out in NZ.

Great tour of the area and a great tour guide! We felt like we got to see and experience everything in the area. Our tour guide, Jan, grew up in the area and did a fabulous job.

The BEST excursion.

What can I say......Stephen was just the perfect Tour Guide for this excursion. His knowledge, humour and care for each of us was exemplary. He made our experience so memorable, with every stop having more interesting facts to share. His jokes/stories, kept us in fits of laughter. He set us workable boundaries regarding free time, shopping etc. and went out of his way to care for the less able in the group. After our Maori Village tour, Stephen passed round hand sanitisers....and evening hand cream! He really made our day and a most memorable trip. Would recommend 100%. Just wish I could remember even 1 of his jokes. 😂😂

Commercial stops Honey and Kiwi fruit farm I could have done without. Especially the Honey shop where bathrooms were roped off despite being advised it was our first toilet stop. The rest of the day was great. Jan our guide was terrific, the village tour exceeded my expectations. A good day and learnt a lot about Maori culture
